Grant Thornton promote Oliver Beaton to Associate Director

Oliver Beaton has been promoted to Associate Director in Grant Thornton’s Recovery and Reorganisation and Forensic Investigation Services team based in Guernsey.

In his new role Oliver will now take insolvency and restructuring appointments. This takes the number of team members taking appointments as liquidator or administrator to five, alongside Ben Rhodes and Andrea Harris in the Guernsey office, and James Pirie and Alan Roberts in the Jersey office.

Oliver joined Grant Thornton in 2020, having spent several years at a boutique insolvency and restructuring practice. Prior to this, he commenced his career in the audit and assurance department of a Big 4 accountancy firm in Guernsey. He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, and holds the Insolvency Practitioners’ Association’s Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency.

Oliver specialises in contentious insolvency and complex restructuring assignments, and has significant experience in cross-border asset recovery matters across numerous jurisdictions, involving listed funds, large multinational trading groups, oil and gas, insurance and various other sectors. Oliver’s work also includes forensic and fraud investigations. He also enjoys assisting clients with solvent wind-down matters. Oliver sits on the Next Gen committee of the Guernsey branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), and is also the committee’s treasurer. He is also a member of INSOL International and ARIES, the Channel Islands chapter of INSOL.

Comprising 30 people, Grant Thornton has the largest team in the Channel Islands, dedicated entirely to restructuring and insolvency assignments and forensic investigations. In addition to numerous qualified accountants and individuals holding insolvency specific qualifications, the team also includes eight Certified Fraud Examiners. The team regularly take appointments in jurisdictions outside of the Channel Islands, in conjunction with insolvency practitioners based throughout the Grant Thornton global network.
