Experience

James is a director at Grant Thornton Channel Islands based in Jersey. He works within the Advisory Services team specialising in Recovery and Reorganisation and Forensic Investigation Services.

James is a Chartered Accountant, qualified Insolvency Practitioner, Certified Fraud Examiner and Professional Investigator and has 17 years experience in the finance industry, with more than 11 of these in Insolvency and Forensics. He has significant experience leading all manner of solvent and insolvent liquidations, primarily in Jersey and Guernsey, and regularly advises directors, creditors and other stakeholders in insolvency and restructuring related matters. James also undertakes forensic investigations, both inside and outside of liquidation appointments, relating to suspected fraud and/or asset recoveries.

James sits on the Legal & Regulatory Committee of the Association of Restructuring and Insolvency Experts (ARIES), the Channel Islands chapter of INSOL International. James is also a module author for the INSOL International Foundation Certificate in International Insolvency.

  • Court-appointed Joint Provisional Liquidator/Liquidator of a Jersey-incorporated trading entity for a significant Russian aluminium producer. 
  • Joint Liquidator of a Jersey-based RFU Championship rugby team.
  • Joint Liquidator of a private property holding company owning a substantial residential property asset in Jersey subject to security. 
  • Joint Liquidator of a Jersey-based mental health charity. 
  • Joint Liquidator on numerous other solvent and insolvent Jersey liquidations.
  • Advisor to Boards of Directors managing solvency issues in a range of sectors, including natural resources, property investment and regulated financial services.
  • Case Manager for a listed mining company in Just & Equitable Winding Up which indirectly owns an iron ore mine and export port in West Africa. 
  • Case Manager for a Guernsey Compulsory Liquidation with a complex multijurisdictional structure, the principal assets being luxury hotels and resorts.
  • Case Manager in the Jersey Royal Court appointed Receivership over a Dutch Promissory Note related to the wider Crociani family litigation. 
    Case Manager of the Creditors’ Winding Up of local freight operator and its subsidiaries.
