"The fact that my tasks are diversified makes this job very exciting"

What is your background?

My name is Jennifer and I am originally from Belgium. I completed a BA degree in accountancy and during the last year of studies I decided to do a work placement in Jersey. I enjoyed it so much that once I graduated I moved to the island.

Why did you choose to work for Grant Thornton?

I started working for another company, where I stayed for approximately 9 months. After this I joined Grant Thornton.

What is your role and what do you like about your position?

I currently work in the tax team as a Tax Associate and I am studying towards being a member of the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT).
The tax team all help and support each other daily and being part of a team is really gratifying. One thing that I really like is the reviewing system; my work is always reviewed by a senior member of the team who returns it with their review comments. This is really important for improving the quality of my work and I can already see I am delivering work of a better standard than when I first joined the company.

Why do you like working at Grant Thornton?

Grant Thornton supports every employee to undertake studies which help with their current role. This support consists of covering the costs of studies (such as courses, study materials, examination entry, hotel and travel, if required), granting study leave to attend the courses and encouraging our success.

Since working for Grant Thornton I have already had the opportunity to be involved in various tasks, such as completion of individual and corporate Jersey income tax returns, the review of accounts for tax purposes, the monitoring of payments of tax due, checking and agreeing/appealing ‘Notices of Assessment’ and completion of UK non-resident landlord tax returns.

The fact that my tasks are diversified makes this job very exciting.
